Re: Windlass Install with Pulpit

Yes,
I think the windlass should be mounted on the same plane as the pulpit / roller assembly.
The link shows the typical setup (in our area) 3M of chain (6/7mm) spliced to 38M of rope,
I presume for weight & space considerations which helps given the small rope locker.
Cheers!

Re: Windlass Install with Pulpit

Hi fanis, I think the concern on this thread is placement of the windlass so that the anchor line will run in and out smoothly with no jamming. My installation has Anchor to chain to rope. The chain to rope splice does not retrieve as smoothly as I would like. Occasionally it will jam at the splice ...

Re: Windlass Install with Pulpit

Hi Mike, I have an 86 Sportfish with with a pulpit & windlass. Both were added at the same time about 15 years ago. I believe it is mounted on the pulpit if memory serves me correctly. I will try to get some pictures & measurements next weekend when I get down there (hopefully). They were bo...

Re: Transom door installation

Welcome aboard Eric & Kathy !
I have a bimini frame and Radar Pedestal off our '86 sportfish

They were removed when we went with a hardtop.

I would think you would want a large outboard bracket added to the transom to add lift and offset all the added weight added so far aft. Otherwise you might have to add ballast midship of some sort make up for the removed engine weight. I'm partial to inboards and their weight down low in the belly.

Hi Jim, Were the 454 Vortecs that you re-powered with stock 400 HP or were they modified to get there? My 86 Merc 454s are 340HP with the 2:1 gears turning 23x26 props. Would you have been able to use your 2:1 gears with the new engines and keep your 23x26 props? What would you be burning at your cr...

Joe, Yes, the anchor locker will drain into the forward v berth and then into salon bilge. This should be sealed up and a drain drilled through the hull to drain the locker overboard. I did this when I installed a windlass. Additionally, mine has hoses leading to the bilge area of the salon which dr...

Mine definitely does not have limber holes through the bulkhead separating the salon from the engine compartment in our sport fish so any water that collects in the bilge area under the salon has no where to go. Usually I hand pump into buckets and dump it overboard. What I can't get with the pump I...
