Scuba from Bert

Post by smanni »

Hey guys - Im back. I bought a 33 hydrasports and tried to sell the bert. Didnt sell and I got grief for having 2 boats - so since the HS is a newer boat and more market "desireable" I decided to list both and keep whichever doesnt sell. The HS has had a ton of activity. Its better for me to keep the Bert since with the Bert we have the a/c and the cabin. Also - since I have been doing more Diving than fishing - the Berts huge cockpit will be much better. Has anyone seen any type of custom dive ladder that would work well for a 33 Bert - I want it to be completely removeable since we still fish as much as dive. I envision some sort of system where mounting brackets stay on the boat but the ladder itself can come off. Any ideas would be appreciated. Then - its to upgrading to a new radar, some canvas repair, rebuild generator, etc - where am I going to find the cash for this hobby???????

Sean, You could get the Garelick Sport Diver ladder with either the platform or under platform mount.(depending on how much work you want to do) Al http://www.garelick.com/prodcat.php?subid=AB02

That makes it easier then. They have several transom mount options. I would reinforce inside the transom though. Al

I would install a transom door for easy boarding.

I have a "fishbone" style ladder (single post) like the Garelick that is easily removable and floats. You can damn near walk up with fins on using a knotted rope to steady yourself. I think that Garelick may have bought the product line...The company was Windline or something like that. Jim Hart FIDELITY-trustworthy & faithful

Sean, Glad to hear you're keeping the B33 and still can't believe it didn't sell. I have a butler swim platform on my B35 and it's removeable, as it bolts to brackets attached to the transom. It would be a pain to remove but could be done once or twice a year. Besides that, it isn't much different than fishing an outboard boat. Your B33 has a huge cockpit which makes it easy to land fish on either side of the boat. Now the transom door would be a very cool upgrade and to me would be worth the cost. br,

I've never seen a Bertram 33 with a transom door. It would be nice. I wonder what would be involved? Buzz

I had a swim platform custom made for my boat. When I boat the boat there was no platform, but it had a ladder as described with the bracket mounted to the tramsom. The bracket and transom definitely needs to be reinforced in this application. Mine was not properly reinforced and caused some damage where the bracket was mounted. I believe High Tide sells a fiberglass platform, but a decent fiberglass guy can build one without too much trouble.

Oh okay you are spitting distance from me as I am on Osprey. We should get together for a beer. I have not been on this site much lately so I did not even know you were on this site. I know there was a 33 under the covered slips near the boardwalk getting new engines a couple years ago, was that you?

Tim: If your out and about this weekend, stop by and I'll buy you a beer or two. My boat backs up to 41 and there is a B33SF parked right next to me in slip #13. I have to take my wife to the airport Saturday morning, but I'll probably be down on the boat all weekend chasing down an electrical problem. I have a bad connection somewhere!!!
