Engine compartment blower
I have a diesel FBC. I have blowers but I never run them. I do have engine room fans that run all the time when my engines are running. I'll leave them on after we come in until things cool off. If I had diesels I wouldn't worry to much about it. Are blowers even required on diesel boats?

Haven't been out much on my boat lately. Been hauled out getting the bottom soda blasted, faired, barrier coated, and fresh bottom paint. New rudder bearings, cutlass bearings, rebalanced shafts and props, swim platform removed, couple thru hulls replaced and a bunch of other random stuff. This season turned out to be much more of a maintenance year for us so I just went ahead and hauled it and started getting all the other stuff I wanted done. Buzz, could you share what make/model your engine room vent fans are? Your last post has me interested in them.
I looked for the name but couldn't find it. It looks like the fans that go on cars before the radiators. When you're out running the boat the engine room temperature will drop 10 to 15 degrees when you cut them on. If I'm in the engine room working and cut them on you can feel the air moving. Not like a fan blowing on you but you can diffidently feel the difference. I had to replace one of the fans and I can't fine the information but I'll keep looking.

Asher did you do the rudder service work I am going to do that in March how does the old stuff come apart. Where did you have the 35 hauled I don't want to run her back to Freeport! You guys tell me that blowers are not important on a diesel boat and here you are talking about the type Buzz has on his boat.

Buzz and I aren't talking about blowers. We apparently hijacked your thread and started talking about actual ventilation fans. These will make a difference in engine room temps in a proper install and they are not standard equipment on our boats. As for my boat, I have it hauled at Fulton yacht yard. I'm having the yard do the work so I am unfamiliar with the step by step process in replacing the bearings. I had one rudder bearing with excessive play and the other had a cracked inner race, so both got replaced. As for the other yards around the area we have a lot of options. Here's a basic list to start calling around and getting quotes for anything you want done. Northshore boat works Fulton yacht yard Hooking Bull House of boats Mile 533 marine ways Corpus Christi city marina Just to name a few. No reason to go back to Freeport.
