Does anyone have any suggestions? I suspect a leak in one of the oil coolers mounted to the bell housing of our Mercruiser 325 (427 block) in our 1972 35'. I'm afraid I will have to pull the engine to get at them. I hope there is an easier way but I don't see it.
Not sure where they located the coolers on those engines, but Merc doesn't make it easy. Why would anybody locate the coolers UNDER the engine. Baffling. Must look good on a stand at the boat show.

Maybe consider relocating?? ,,, it's been a long time but believe when my boat was gas with 454 motors the oil coolers were inboard and a easy to replace.
It appears that the coolers are built right into the bell housing with close off plates that can be removed to get at the heat exchangers. She's coming out this PM, engine out next week. I'll post a final report, thanks for your help!!
Wow! What a drag. The coolers on my 454's are separate in-line / straight thru units. The cooling hoses attach to each end and oil lines (in & out). See this link: https://lencoheatexchangers.com/collect ... ng-coolers They are easily accessible from the side of the engine just above where the oil pan meets the bottom of the block. Sorry this doesn't help you. I would abandon your present set up and relocate them to a similar set up / position as I have. Good Luck
