I agree and Happy New Year! I check in here regularly and am disappointed that there isn’t more activity. It might be that most of the regulars are getting on in years (I’m 71) and are either downsizing or getting out or boating. it could also be the loss of soo much useful information due to the website hack a wile back. I hope this site doesn’t go the way of the 28 site. The only other one left is the 31 site which is fairly active. At any rate, let’s hope we get more activity in the New Year. There are still a lot of Bertram33’s out there and they are a great boat by any standard!

One of my favorite sites to visit too. I think a lot of us are still here, we're just used to the boats ! But I'm putting in battery charger, new pumps and cockpit panels - the fun never stops ! Happy New Year boys, that days are getting longer ! Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

I’d have to agree with the lack of new blood (we are used to the boats around here) comment. This past year was full of post Hurricane Harvey repairs for me. Unfortunately, most of the yards that were around here sustained pretty good damage as well as all the vendors (canvas shops, etc) so the vendors that slid into the open market at the time did some quite horrible work. Spent the good part of the year fighting with the canvas guys to finally get things right at the very end of it all. It took three whole different sets of curtains, but they finally got it right. I fished my own boat just once all year. This past year the boat got the flybridge rewelded and professionally painted (cracked in several places during the hurricane), all new curtains, new bra for the salon windows, some new transom paint, recored cockpit deck, all new MFD’s, transducer, radar, vhf’s, and autopilot (Harvey also took out all of my electronics), both shafts realigned, fresh dripless shaft seals, and a fresh bottom job. Other Harvey damages that were fixed were a couple bent trim tabs and actuators, bent rudder, a ripped out stern cleat, and some fiberglass work on the bottom of the hull.

Even after selling my Bertram I still check in on this site. I'm not on here much because I down sized to a 26 Regulator.I miss my Bertram but I don't miss leaving the boat in the water, divers to keep the bottom clean and dealing with boat yards. I can trailer my Regulator and added another lift behind my house to keep it on. But I really miss my Bertram. I would have kept it if I were younger or hard family members that wanted to use it.

I’ve done a lot of work over the past 6 or 7 years from Amtico cabin sole to recoring the cocpit adding a pvc drainage system and way too much more to list and bore everyone. I’ve always checked in before starting a project knowing someone here has done it before and shared their experience; the site is great. This winter I’m laying low just a touch up of the bottom since last years stripping and barrier coats worked great. She came out clean as a whistle and maybe a pro polishing of the hull. I should mention I’m putting in a new raw water pump on the Genny and one on the port engine. Rebuilding the old ones and keeping for spares Next year if all goes to plan a new enclosure similar to what Brian did to his 42â€ I think its a 42â€

Last year was the first year of no yard work. However I ended up updating the V-Berth interior from the original carpet and wallpaper on the bulkheads to new carpet and a foam and vinyl upholstrey combination on the bulkheads. Came out pretty nice for my first attempt at uphosltrey work. This year is minor maintenance-clean both trans oil coolers, clean and replace gaskets on the Racor filters, and some exterior wood work. Three short months until launch time!

I know I've been one of the quiet ones since March 2016 due to many health issues. Last spring ran into the summer getting the boat all taken care of. When I started I had trouble just lifting the buffer after 15 months of inactivity. End of July I said I had been putting off replacing the stb exhaust manifolds. Used an electric die grinder (awesome tool) to take the corroded heads off the bolts. Then used the die grinder to put a relief channel along side each bolt. Made a difficult job easy. Then the trouble started. Some of the new bolts would not thread into the heads. Tried helicoils but when I put the tap in, the head just crumbled. That meant replace the heads also. That took the rest of the summer as with my bad back I can't lift anything heavy. Our marina is almost all day boaters now so I had to wait for someone every time I had to lift the intake manifold, lift the heads off & take them up to my truck, get the new heads back from the shop & then take them back down to the boat. Then wait again until someone was around to help me get them back into place. Got everything back together & found the starter was a ball of rust from the tranny cooler hose that burst the previous summer. Replaced it & the alternator was acting up. Replaced that with a 105 amp alternator from DB electrical which also chased away the low voltage gremlins I've been chasing for years. So after all of this & doing the same to the port engine in 2015, NITES OFF is now running the best it ever has since I bought her in 2001. Al

Rick, I used double cut carbide burrs with a 1/4" shank. Got a whole set of American made burrs on sale on Amazon. If you were thinking of using them in a drill, I don't think they would work without a lot of chatter. The slowest speed on the grinder is 13,000 RPM. Your drill is probably about 2600 RPM. Al

Tony, The new enclosure will look basically just like the one in my signature post and will be Strata-glass. The old one lasted 14 years and was made of strata-glass. It needed restitching here and there with an occasional new zipper, but last year the zippers were falling apart all over and the glass has been getting more and more beat up even though 3 out of 4 smileys swing up rather than roll. There were so many busted teeth from the zippers that it looked like a hockey game broke out! A local guy in Salem will be doing it, His name is Ilir Korriku. I've used him for a few other jobs on the boat and I've been happy with his work.
