Cleat replacement question

Post by Bobjr1261 »

Has anyone replaced the starboard amidships cleat? On my 1988 FBC, the mid cleat is in line with the refrigerator. Can I gain access to the cleat by removing it? Thanks in advance

That's a new one. I think you're blazing a trail here. May I ask why you're replacing it?

Pull the fridge, remove the panel with the outlet and there is a huge cavity back there.

Doug, I had a friend rafted up and he put a line on the midship cleat. All was fine, until some guy came in throwing a huge wake and the cleat snapped off! The cleat actually broke and the fasteners all stayed intact. Thanks retman I didn't want to start removing the fridge and run into a dead end.

That's there first time I've heard of one of our cleats breaking ! But I can imagine that a huge wake would do it. Captain Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

That's crazy Bob. I had to replace one of my bow chocks about a dozen years ago due to a similar circumstance and I've re-bedded both of the cockpit cleats that weren't glassed in well from the factory, but I've never had an issue with the either the mid-ship or bow cleats. Good luck.
