Curtins

My curtins appear to be original. Has anyone washed or dry cleaned them? Are there any subcontractors out there that can make new ones using the original hangers? Don

I washed mine a few years ago. It worked OK, but they are original and they are beat. The yacht interior folks want around $2K. No thanks.

Don I had the curtains in mine dry cleaned when we first got the boat and they came out ok. Be careful with those little plasic balls as they seem to fall apart from age. Our boat is a 1982 and although the curtains are clean they look dated as well as the original peacocks on the master stateroom bed cover!!! I believe the hangers are still made and if you are going to replace the curtains I would use someone who does curtains for homes (RLF home in Hartford does curtains and would probably duplicate your old ones. They might be expensive,but, worth checking). By the way thanks for the tow earlier this summer!---Doug

They still make the hangers and sell the individually for approx. 25 cents each or mounted to fabric tape that is sewn to the edge of the curtins. the tape is sold by the foot. Try beaconfabrics.com. Good luck.

Mike is right about Beacon Fabric. My wife used the old curtains as a pattern made new ones, included linning for them along with new plastic hangars from beacon fabric. Doug is right about the price from interior companies, too much! You can see the end result in the slide show from my interior redo. Material cost was about $300.00. If you redo them don't re-use the old hangars.

Cliff, What kind of material did your wife use as a liner and where did she get the material for the curtains? Its hard finding something that looks good and will also hold up to sun and salt.

Don, I got the idea from Bill D and replaced my curtains with HunterDouglas Reveal Magnaview Blinds. They really open up the interior, allow you to bring in lots of light quickly when you want it, or completly darken at night.
