Projects
Hi all, Its that time again the time for winter projects. Had the bottom soda blasted the other day and waiting for some 55 degree days to use “Tuff Stuffâ€ 2 part epoxy; Probably be spring by whe time we see those temps. Looking at a used “Anchorliftâ€ windlass for short money. Lots of work to install it if it turns out it fits. I’ll know better today when I fit the roller on the bow. Anyone have this model on their 33’? Also trying to get a glass guy from Sandwhich to make a hard top to replace the old canvas top but he is hesitating. I think it might be too big a job for him. Anyone have a local person around the Cape to do a top? Oil analysis turned out perfect again for the 6th straight year. New props with a bit less pitch did the trick as far as some minor sooting of past years. Hit 3850 and 3875 at WOT all year. Let’s see what we get next year without the layers of paint that were removed the other day. Changed anti freeze this years too. (Cat DEAC)

Hi Tony, I have an older model "Goode" windlass that was never installed, very short money (site donation)if you're interested. We installed a Lewmar instead & added a pulpit. We had a hardtop made by Jeff Bothello formerly of J&J Marine in Somerset (brought the boat there)now called SEAmless Marine 779 Church St, New Bedford, MA 02745 Phone: (508) 644-2878. He will fabricate it in his shop & come to your location to install it. Very satisfied with his work. Boats in Falmouth if you wanna look at it under the wrap

Tony, FYI I had a small problem several years ago with the cat anti-freeze I would get a very small leak between the head and block. When I ran 2500 rpm,s and above . My cat guy said common problem because cat anti-freeze has very high level of silicone, got a second option from another cat guy and was told don't move the boat head has to come off ... first guy has been maintaining the boat since the repowered and assured me only need to get rid of the cat stuff. That was 5 or 6 years ago ( 700 or 800 hours). Still running strong ! No leaks! Things may be different now. Just throwing it out there if you do see some leakage.

Which Cat anti freeze did u use Extended life or DEAC? I’ve been running DEAC with no problems since I bought her. I thought it was time to put some fresh stuff in. By the way on another note my oil samples came back perfect again.

With the help from Lobsta1, I installed a Lewmar 1,000 pound winch. Yes, a lot of work to install but it will be one of the best things you've added to your boat. You can get the line & chain already spliced from Defender and I got my wire from Genuinedealz on-line. See if you can find a deal on a Delta anchor roller, no need for a pulpit. Hi Rick, I am buying an Anchor Lift (Maco model) complete with anchor, anchor roller, windlass & solenoid for $400. Can’t pass it up. Spoke to John at Anchor Lift yesterday who was very helpful with all my questions. Took his time to explain all aspects of what to look for from the motor to the gypsie. Thanks for the wire tip that is my next step along with buying a new breaker. Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

Maybe not a winter project but didn’t want to start a new thread for this. Has anyone bought or installed a whole boat cover for the winter? I found a company out of NJ, Fisher Marine Canvas, that makes semi-custom whole boat covers. I got a quote for a little under $4k for the cover, complete to the water lines and it includes a zipper access hatch. I’m curious if anyone has thought of this just trying to protect our projects/toys as much as possible. Or if anyone has any alternatives to protecting a fresh paint job please let me know. Thank you.

Tony, Here is a link to their website. They ask for a picture of your boat I guess to size it up first. It is a thought I am contemplating after this winter. This will be the first winter outside and unprotected. Hopefully we get a 50 degree Saturday around here so I can give her a quick rinse down. http://www.fishercanvas.com/

Where I store they get 16/ft to wrap.=528.00. I have a simple ridge pole (2x4) and some uprights I reuse and the plastic is around 180 for a 32 x 65. Fold the enclosure and shrink it myself. Snow slides right off, no flapping in the winter gales.

He quoted me $2k for the hardtop just materials and another $4k to install. $6K seems like too much when all he is going to give me is a thin piece of star board glued and screwed to the inner piping leaving a gap to the outer piping not covered. It’s not a look that I think I want. I’m better off having another canvas made and tightly strap it to the outer piping as it is today. Probably last me another 10 years.
