Big Block Gas Engine Prices

Post by buzzk »

What's the ballpark price of big block gas engines with transmissions. It would be for a Bertram 31. I'm thinking 8.1 Crusaders anyway, I'm sure if the gas engine was large enough for a 33 it would work in a 31. What size, make and ballpark price would you suggest?

They don't make the 8.1 Crusaders any more. If you want 8.1's you have to look at Mercs and they are expensive. I would look at 6.0 375hp and 6.2

I think the 6.0 would be the way to go. How's the fuel economy on these engines?

The 6.0 is a great engine. Over on the Blackfin site there is a guy who has them in his 32 FB and is getting around .8-.9 NMPG at a cruise of 24-25knt. I would think the 6.0 is a great engine choice for the 31 Bert, she is lighter then a 32 BF. Also you will have great engine access to work on them with the smaller foot print. Go with a 2:1 or 2.5:1 transmission
