http://annapolis.craigslist.com Good luck with the conversion, night and day difference in how you use the boat. The only thing that still sucks about diesels is how much oil they take at change time. But that doesn't nearly put a dent into the fuel saved and how easy you boat will handle. br,

Doug L ---IE 8 -- Does anyone know the hydralic cylander size or model for the default bertram install (1986 give or take)? While i have everything apart I am contemplating adding autohelm and my Cylander is so old the Sticker with the model number is unreadable. New engines arrive next week and am going to try to pickup the new gauges on Friday so i can spend some time to focus on how i want the helm to look (if i defer from the default). Where I really need advice is with all the elements that arent the obvious, easy ones and/or the ones the Yard is attempting to hustle me for. Basically for those that have repowered -- what are the things that you say to yourself "I wish i had done?" or "Im so glad I ...." Thanks

Do you mean the Hynautic steering cylinder just above the rudders on the transom ? Not sure if you mean that one or something behind the steering wheel. I can check mine when I'm back on the boat in a few days. Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

The steering cylinder is a K-22. Don't know what your upper rudder bearings look like either, but if you have the old Bertram stuff you may want to consider the Tides Marine LP series. I replaced the rudder bearings three years ago.. found new ones off the shelf in an industrial supply company. Later I learned that there was a new design that used all plastic materials, meaning they would not rust or corrode. If I had known these were available I would have bought them instead. As I recall High Tide was selling them, but I might be wrong here.

Your helm station should be an H-50 model. Rose marine in Glochester MA has the seal kits.

One more... The Blanks are getting the Gear Pressure indicators --Sensors already on the engines... The Hour Meters are in the RPM gauges -- so using the old Starboard Hour Meter Hole for Fuel and I need a matching gauge for Port Hour Meter hole...VDO Ocean line has either a clock or in Europe i can get a C Temp gauge (which is more useful to me).... Went with the Groco GRO-GHS15 -- its a 5Port Oil Change System- I figured now was the time to put one in. The Fiberglass tank had Ethanol in and out (when in FL i filled with non-- but in MD I used Ethonal) over the past 5 years-- after draining the tank we found a bunch of sludge in the tank and decided that i didnt want to improve the boat so dramatically with the Diesels ---only to have fuel related issue or worse give the warranty people something to count against me.
